RWE said it welcomed the UK Energy Secretary Ed Miliband’s approval of a Development Consent Order (DCO) for its 1.1-gigawatt Five Estuaries offshore wind farm off the east coast of England.
The project will add up to 79 turbines to the existing 354-megawatt Galloper array. RWE described the planning consent, granted on 17 December, as a “significant milestone” for the extension.
“We are delighted to have received development consent for Five Estuaries,” said Danielle Lane, RWE’s director of development for the UK and Ireland. “This achievement reflects years of dedicated community engagement and collaboration with local stakeholders.”
The wind farm is being developed by RWE on behalf of co-owners including ESB, a Macquarie-led consortium, and Sumitomo Corporation. The company said the next steps include securing a route to market, making a final investment decision, and commencing construction ahead of a planned grid connection in 2030.
RWE noted that the project was eligible to participate in the UK government’s Allocation Round 7 support scheme for offshore wind.
