RWE has appointed Sopna Sury as chief executive of its Renewables Europe & Australia subsidiary, effective 1 April 2026, the German energy company said on Monday.
Sury will succeed Katja Wunschel, who is set to leave RWE on 31 March 2026 to join the management board of real estate group Vonovia as chief development officer. RWE said the Renewables Europe & Australia unit oversees the development, construction and operation of onshore wind, solar and battery storage projects across Europe and Australia.
Sury currently oversees the hydrogen business on the RWE Generation executive board, a remit that Nikolaus Valerius will assume in addition to his existing responsibilities, the company added.
“In Sopna Sury, we have an outstanding leader and excellent manager from our own ranks who will lead our onshore wind and PV business in Europe and Australia in the future,” RWE chief executive Markus Krebber said. “She knows RWE and the renewable energy business inside out and will successfully continue our growth strategy.” He also credited Wunschel with helping drive the expansion of renewables in recent years and wished her well in her new role at Vonovia.
