Oga Katagami Akita Offshore Green Energy has signed a contract with Kajima Corporation to handle the manufacturing, procurement, transportation, and installation of offshore wind turbine foundations for its 315-megawatt project off the coast of Oga City, Katagami City, and Akita City in Japan’s Akita Prefecture.
The 21-turbine development, set to feature Vestas V236-15MW machines, is Japan’s first offshore wind project built under the Act on Promoting the Utilisation of Sea Areas for Renewable Energy. Commercial operations are expected to begin in June 2028.
Kajima will apply its technical and construction expertise to deliver the works with an emphasis on safety, quality, and environmental protection, the developer said.
The project also aims to establish Japan’s largest offshore operations and maintenance business, with 86% of staff recruited locally from Akita Prefecture. Oga Katagami Akita Offshore Green Energy said it will collaborate with regional businesses to support industrial growth and local supply chains.
The developer added it will work with partners including Itochu Corporation to “promote cooperative sales and sustainable development in Akita’s agricultural and fisheries sectors, while contributing to Japan’s wider carbon-neutral and battery storage ambitions.”
The agreement represents a key milestone as the project progresses toward full-scale construction, reinforcing Japan’s broader efforts to expand renewable energy capacity along its northern coastline.
