Marine geoscience consultancy Ternan Energy and offshore transmission specialist Njord Subsea have signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to jointly deliver integrated engineering and consultancy services for offshore wind and subsea cable projects.
The collaboration aims to provide end-to-end technical support for developers and operators involved in offshore renewable energy, covering all phases of project development from early assessment to installation and operations.
Ternan Energy, based in Aberdeen, was recently named Ground Engineering 2025 Consulting Firm of the Year. The company provides marine geoscience services to offshore projects for clients including Ocean Winds, RWE Renewables, SSE, Ørsted and CorPower Ocean.
Njord Subsea, founded in 2024 by industry veterans Andrew Newman and Benjamin Vick, offers engineering and consultancy services focused on offshore transmission infrastructure.
“As offshore wind projects push into deeper waters and more challenging environments, developers need integrated expertise that spans from seabed to grid connection,” said Ternan Energy Managing Director Euan Marjoribanks. “This partnership brings together two highly complementary skillsets — our deep understanding of marine geoscience and foundation engineering, combined with Njord’s specialist knowledge of offshore transmission systems and subsea cables.”
The companies said the agreement will allow them to share technical resources and collaborate on engineering, design, construction and operational support. They also plan to jointly pursue new business opportunities in the offshore renewable energy sector.
Njord Subsea Director Benjamin Vick said the partnership reflects the increasing need for consultancies capable of working across technical disciplines. “The offshore wind sector demands more than isolated technical expertise — it requires consultancies that can bridge the gap between different engineering disciplines while maintaining absolute commercial focus,” he said. “Ternan’s track record of delivering practical, cost-effective geoscience solutions aligns perfectly with our execution-focused approach to offshore transmission.”
Ternan Energy, founded in 2016, has grown to employ over 20 staff across four UK offices with annual revenues exceeding £5 million. Both companies emphasised that they will maintain their independence, with a shared commitment to providing objective, project-driven recommendations.
