Ireland’s state-owned electricity transmission operator, EirGrid, has selected Turner & Townsend as a key delivery partner for its multi-billion-euro grid investment programme aimed at modernising the national electricity network and supporting the country’s renewable energy goals.
The framework agreement, set to run for five years with an option to extend by a further three, will focus on projects to increase grid capacity, enhance energy security and enable greater integration of wind and solar energy.
Turner & Townsend will work in collaboration with professional services firm WSP, combining project management and engineering expertise to support EirGrid’s efforts in strengthening the country’s electricity infrastructure.
The appointment builds on an existing partnership between Turner & Townsend and WSP, which has previously supported EirGrid in areas including onshore and offshore grid development, system reinforcement and cross-border interconnection projects.
“EirGrid is leading Ireland’s transition to a low-carbon future and this is one of Europe’s most ambitious grid transformation programmes to date,” said Philip Matthews, managing director at Turner & Townsend in Ireland.
“Working together with WSP we will bring additional capability and expertise to support EirGrid in realising this complex programme, aligned with national and international energy strategies,” he added.
The programme forms part of Ireland’s broader strategy to reduce carbon emissions and meet renewable energy targets under EU and national climate commitments.
