Andritz has received an order for the engineering of a 100MW green hydrogen plant at Rostock Port in Germany. The contract was placed by REPCO (Rostock EnergyPort Cooperation), a joint venture involving RWE Generation, EnBW Neue Energien, RheinEnergie, and Rostock Port.
Subject to a planned investment decision set for mid-2025, REPCO intends to proceed with the official order to Andritz for the plant’s supply. The green hydrogen production facility will be designed and constructed on an Engineering, Procurement, and Construction (EPC) basis using HydrogenPro’s pressurized alkaline technology for the electrolysis process.
Upon receiving the go-ahead, Andritz will provide a comprehensive solution, including the hydrogen production plant, hydrogen purification and compression systems, storage facilities, and a hydrogen filling station. Commissioning of the plant is slated for 2027.
The green hydrogen facility will be one of the first in Germany to connect to the Hydrogen Core Network, a pipeline network dedicated to hydrogen transportation across European countries, with full operation expected by 2028. The plant will not only serve local industries but also support the mobility sector, helping to advance the energy transition in the region.
Michael Wurzel, Managing Director of REPCO, emphasized the significance of the project, saying: “The 100 MW electrolyzer is the centerpiece of the HyTechHafen Rostock project, which aims to advance the energy transition in Europe. This is a crucial project for Rostock, reinforcing the position of the area as a key interchange for energy transportation.”
Sami Pelkonen, Executive Vice President of Green Hydrogen at Andritz, highlighted the importance of collaboration in driving progress toward a green transition: “We have always emphasized that no one can achieve the green transition alone. The establishment of REPCO in 2022 underscores the joint venture’s commitment to developing green hydrogen production and distribution infrastructure. This order marks Andritz’s second major contract for a 100MW green hydrogen plant in Germany, following a similar order from Salzgitter Flachstahl.
