Deep Wind Offshore has received a positive recommendation from the County Administrative Board of Uppsala for its proposed 1.4-gigawatt (GW) Olof Skötkonung offshore wind project in Sweden’s Gulf of Gävle, the company said on Tuesday.
The recommendation allows the project to proceed to the Swedish Government for final approval under the country’s Act on the Exclusive Economic Zone.
If approved, the wind farm is expected to generate approximately 5.5 terawatt hours (TWh) of electricity annually — a contribution aimed at addressing growing power demand in bidding zone SE3, which includes major consumption centres.
“We welcome the County Administrative Board’s recommendation. It confirms the strength of the Olof Skötkonung project and its role in securing Sweden’s future energy supply,” said Magnus Hallman, country manager at Deep Wind Offshore.
He added: “Offshore wind is the fastest tool the Government has to bring large-scale power into the system at a time when new capacity is in high demand.”
The developer is currently evaluating connection options to both the national transmission grid and regional networks, aiming to maximise the project’s local and system-wide benefits.
Construction could begin as early as 2027, subject to government approval, according to the company.
