Offshore engineering firm Global Maritime has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with U.S.-based Entrion Wind to support the development of a new monopile foundation technology, with plans for a UK demonstration project.
Under the agreement, Global Maritime will provide transport and installation (T&I) engineering services across the full lifecycle of Entrion Wind’s Fully Restrained Platform (FRP) monopile foundation. This includes support from early-stage feasibility and design through to execution, operations, and eventual decommissioning.
The FRP technology is designed to expand the application of monopile foundations into deeper waters of up to 100 metres, offering a more scalable and cost-effective alternative to existing solutions.
The partnership will also involve the development of a generic T&I framework for the FRP concept, aimed at streamlining its use in future UK offshore wind projects.
“Global Maritime’s involvement will be instrumental as we move closer to our first deployment in the UK market,” said Eivind Johnsen, president of Entrion Wind.
Jonny Logan, chief executive of Global Maritime, said the collaboration could “unlock new opportunities for efficient, scalable offshore wind deployment in the UK”.
The agreement comes as the UK continues to accelerate its offshore wind ambitions, with developers and suppliers looking to bring forward innovative technologies that can reduce costs and increase deployment at scale.
