Northern Offshore Services (NOS) has placed an order for 12 new hybrid crew transfer vessels (CTVs), in what the company describes as one of the largest single CTV orders in the offshore wind sector to date.
The vessels, part of the newly developed 36-metre E-Class series, are being constructed by an undisclosed shipyard. Four vessels are currently under construction, with the remaining eight on order. The agreement also includes options for additional vessels.
“This is not just a fleet expansion, this is a statement,” said David Kristensson, Group Chief Executive of Northern Offshore Services. “We believe in this market, we believe in our design, and above all, we believe in our ability to lead innovation, sustainably, competitively and at scale.”
Designed in-house, the E-Class series aims to meet growing industry demands for safer, more efficient, and lower-emission offshore transport solutions. The vessels incorporate hybrid propulsion systems and have been built with future fuel flexibility in mind.
NOS said the design includes enhanced hull efficiency, automated energy management systems, improved comfort for crew and technicians, and expanded cargo capacity tailored for offshore wind support operations.
“The market is evolving fast, but we are faster, and we always try to be one step ahead,” Kristensson added. “With this investment, we ensure a diverse and capable fleet profile, setting a new benchmark in our segment.”
The first vessel, M/V Explorer, is expected to arrive in Europe next week, with delivery of the full series set to continue over the coming years.
NOS’s investment reflects the growing demand for specialised, low-emission vessels to support offshore wind development across Europe and beyond, as the industry scales up in line with renewable energy targets.
