Sembcorp Industries has been awarded a contract by PUB, Singapore’s National Water Agency, to build an 86 megawatt-peak (MWp) floating solar photovoltaic (PV) system on Pandan Reservoir, the company said on Monday.
The project will be developed through Sembcorp’s wholly-owned subsidiary, Sembcorp Solar Singapore, and marks the company’s third floating solar venture in the country.
Sembcorp previously completed the 60MWp floating solar installation on Tengeh Reservoir in 2021, one of the world’s largest inland floating solar farms at the time. In 2024, the company also secured a 25-year agreement with a subsidiary of Meta Platforms Inc. to develop a 150MWp floating solar project on Kranji Reservoir, currently Singapore’s largest.
“Floating solar projects, such as those at Pandan, Tengeh and Kranji Reservoirs are vital for Singapore’s land-scarce energy landscape,” said Jen Tan, CEO of Sembcorp Solar Singapore.
“Being entrusted with the delivery of this critical infrastructure not only highlights our ability to adhere to applicable environmental standards and timely project completions, but also provides an opportunity for us to uplift the solar workforce through skills development,” Tan added.
The Pandan Reservoir project supports Singapore’s broader aim to achieve 2 gigawatt-peak (GWp) of solar capacity by 2030. With this new project, Sembcorp’s solar capacity in Singapore now exceeds 1GWp, alongside over 300 megawatt-hours (MWh) of energy storage.
Globally, the company’s renewable energy portfolio has reached 18.9GW, according to the latest company data.
