Nexta Capital Partners and Octopus Energy Generation, the renewables arm of Britain’s Octopus Energy, said on Thursday their joint venture has received approval from Italy’s Ministry of the Environment and Energy Security (MASE) to develop a 50-megawatt battery energy storage system (BESS) in northern Italy.
The authorization, known as Autorizzazione Unica, represents a milestone in Nexta’s development strategy, which already includes more than 500 MW of advanced-stage projects and targets a total capacity of 1,500 MW. The new facility is expected to strengthen the flexibility and resilience of Italy’s power grid, enabling greater integration of renewable energy sources.
“Securing this authorization confirms the strength of our vision and the ability of the Nexta team to successfully deliver complex projects with determination and expertise,” Nexta’s management team said in a statement. “We are also pleased to highlight the excellent collaboration with Octopus Energy Generation, a strategic partner in promoting innovative and sustainable energy solutions. We are proud to be actively contributing to the development of a more forward-looking and responsible energy future.”
The project marks another step in the joint venture’s efforts to expand advanced energy solutions across the country, supporting Italy’s broader goals for sustainability and energy transition.
