German drivetrain specialist Flender has signed an agreement to acquire the gears service business of Wärtsilä Brasil Ltda, expanding its wind and industrial service capabilities in South America, the companies said on Monday.
The transaction, which is subject to approval by Brazil’s antitrust authority CADE, is expected to close by early 2026. Under the deal, Wärtsilä’s service facility in Cabo de Santo Agostinho, Pernambuco, will be transferred to Flender Brasil Ltda, a newly established subsidiary of Flender.
Opened in 2022, the 5,000-square-metre site is the first in Latin America equipped with wind gearbox testing capacity and will become the foundation of Flender’s service operations in the region. Wärtsilä will continue to use parts of the facility for its marine and energy business activities.
“Flender has taken a strategic leap to expanding our service network with the addition of Flender Brasil Ltda. This pivotal milestone ensures our commitment to Flender’s industry leading customer service,” said Andreas Evertz, chief executive of Flender.
Antti Turunen, vice president of Wind Service at Flender, added: “The acquisition of the Brazil facility will further expand our reach and enhance our ability to serve customers across the region.”
Until the acquisition is finalised, Flender and Wärtsilä will continue to operate as separate entities with no immediate changes for customers, suppliers, or staff, the companies said.
