Iberdrola España has signed a long-term power purchase agreement (PPA) with fast-food chain Burger King to supply an additional 34 megawatts (MW) of solar power, the energy company said on Monday.
The agreement increases the total contracted capacity between the two firms to 109 MW, enough to meet the annual electricity needs of over 900 Burger King restaurants in Spain, according to Iberdrola.
Under the deal, Iberdrola will deliver approximately 1,900 gigawatt-hours (GWh) of photovoltaic energy to Burger King over the life of the contract. The company said the agreement aims to strengthen energy security while supporting the restaurant group’s transition to renewable power sources.
Iberdrola noted that it manages similar power purchase agreements in several international markets, including Spain, Portugal, Germany, Italy, the United Kingdom, the United States, Brazil, Mexico, and Australia.
“This agreement reinforces our commitment to supporting corporate customers in their decarbonisation efforts while providing stable and clean energy,” Iberdrola said in a statement.
