German energy company RWE has opened a new offshore wind operations and maintenance hub at the Port of Grimsby, aimed at strengthening its offshore wind capabilities in the UK.
The facility, known as the Grimsby Hub, will house RWE’s UK Centralised Control Room, which will oversee round-the-clock monitoring of the company’s offshore wind fleet.
“As part of RWE’s ongoing expansion in renewable energy, the Grimsby Hub represents a significant leap forward in our offshore operations,” said Sven Utermöhlen, CEO of RWE Offshore Wind. “It serves as a critical platform for collaboration with local businesses, supporting regional growth and advancing a net-zero future for the UK.”
Currently employing over 90 staff, RWE said the site is expected to expand to 140 employees by 2027. In addition, the company plans to create 60 locally sourced roles and foster broader supply chain opportunities.
The hub will support operations for the Triton Knoll and Sofia offshore wind farms, the latter situated approximately 195 km off the UK’s northeast coast.
According to the company, the location was chosen for its strategic proximity to major offshore wind projects and access to deep-water berths that accommodate service operation vessels.
The site was officially inaugurated by Utermöhlen during a ceremony attended by representatives from local government, industry, and the regional business community.
RWE described the investment as part of its continued support for the Grimsby region and the UK’s broader offshore wind development plans.
