Norwegian energy company Aneo has acquired the 130-megawatt Bäckhammar wind farm in southern Sweden from KGAL Investment Management, as part of its strategy to strengthen its renewable energy footprint across the Nordic region.
The Bäckhammar project, located in the Kristinehamn municipality within Sweden’s SE3 electricity price zone, consists of 31 Vestas turbines and has been operational since 2020.
Aneo said the acquisition adds geographic diversity to its portfolio and enhances its long-term generation capacity.
“This acquisition is a new step in the work of building a solid and profitable portfolio of renewable power production,” said Aneo chief executive Gunnar Hovland.
The deal includes the continuation of an existing power purchase agreement (PPA) with a major international technology firm. The wind farm is expected to contribute around 355 gigawatt-hours (GWh) of electricity annually, bringing Aneo’s wind production in the SE3 zone to nearly 30% of its total portfolio.
“Bäckhammar is a well-run wind farm with a good technical standard. It is a good purchase at a competitive price, with opportunities for both industrial optimisation and future development,” said Kari Skeidsvoll Moe, Aneo’s executive vice president for renewable energy.
The company noted that the acquisition comes amid internal efforts to improve operational efficiency and reduce costs in response to challenging market conditions. Nevertheless, Aneo said the move reflects continued confidence in the long-term potential of the Nordic power sector.
