Taiwan-based Century Wind Power (CWP) has been awarded a contract to supply 35 jacket foundations for the 495-megawatt (MW) Formosa 4 offshore wind project, developer Synera Renewable Energy Group (SRE) said on Wednesday.
Under the agreement, CWP will assume full coordination responsibility for the foundation package, marking a significant role for domestic industry in the construction of one of Taiwan’s major offshore wind developments.
The Formosa 4 project, located off the coast of Miaoli County, is SRE’s third offshore wind farm in Taiwan. It secured capacity through the Phase 3 Zonal Development auction in 2022 and received its establishment permit in late 2024.
SRE said the contract aligns with Taiwan’s local content policy and supports its strategy to strengthen the domestic offshore wind supply chain.
“By entrusting a Taiwanese supplier with full-package responsibility for foundation supply, we are going well beyond meeting local content requirements,” said Lucas Lin, chairperson of SRE.
Chief projects officer Sahand Holm added: “This collaboration reflects SRE’s long-term commitment to supporting local enterprises.”
CWP chairman Wen-Hsiang Lai welcomed the contract and said the company will coordinate with domestic partners and regional suppliers to ensure timely manufacturing and delivery. “We will integrate Asia-Pacific supply chain resources and coordinate with domestic suppliers to maximise manufacturing and assembly capacity,” he said.
The Formosa 4 project is expected to play a key role in supporting Taiwan’s energy transition and offshore wind targets.
