Dutch heavy lifting equipment specialist Huisman has secured a contract to provide a 250 metric ton (mt) knuckle boom crane for a new offshore construction vessel being built by Vard for Dong Fang Offshore (DFO), the companies said on Monday.
The vessel, currently under construction at Vard, is intended for deployment in Taiwan’s growing offshore wind sector. The crane features a 250mt lifting capacity and a below-deck winch configuration designed to reduce maintenance needs and facilitate easier servicing, Huisman said.
We are very pleased to have a Huisman crane on the latest addition to our fleet,” said DFO Chief Executive Polin Chen. “We were impressed by Huisman’s combination of quality, reliability, and strong local support, along with their superior technical solution that meets the unique demands of our customers. We also appreciated their open and constructive dialogue in addressing any challenge that arose.
Huisman’s Asia-Pacific commercial director Timon Ligterink added: “This contract marks another important step in supporting the development of offshore wind infrastructure in Taiwan, and we are proud to contribute with our advanced lifting solutions.”
The contract builds on an established partnership between Huisman, DFO, and Vard. In 2023, DFO awarded Huisman a basket system contract and a letter of intent for a cable lay system. Huisman has also supplied multiple cranes and pipelay systems for vessels constructed by Vard.
The new vessel and crane are expected to enhance Taiwan’s offshore wind installation capabilities as the country expands its renewable energy infrastructure.
