RWE has celebrated the topping-out of its new offshore wind control centre in Jemgum, East Frisia, as the company moves toward expanding its operational support for offshore wind assets across Germany and continental Europe.
The facility, which is scheduled to become fully operational in spring 2026, will serve as a 24/7 hub for monitoring and managing RWE’s current and future offshore wind farms. The 1,120-square-metre site includes a control room, offices, and break areas, and will accommodate around 50 employees.
“From here, ship movements, wind turbines and substations will all be monitored,” the company said in a statement.
The building, which RWE is leasing long-term from Real Immobilien, is being constructed to meet Germany’s QNG (Qualitätssiegel Nachhaltiges Gebäude) standards for sustainable buildings, the company added.
Once operational, the centre will also function as the project office for the 1.6-gigawatt Nordseecluster, a joint development between RWE and Norges Bank Investment Management. Located north of Juist, the Nordseecluster is expected to provide electricity to up to 1.6 million homes.
