Israeli renewable energy developer Econergy Renewable Energy has entered the German market through the acquisition of two battery energy storage system (BESS) projects in the eastern state of Brandenburg, the company said on Wednesday.
The two fully owned projects have a combined capacity of 100 megawatts (MW) and 200 megawatt-hours (MWh). Construction is expected to begin by the end of 2025, with commercial operations planned for the first quarter of 2027.
Econergy estimates the investment at €73 million, with projected annual revenues of €13.7 million and average earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation, and amortisation (EBITDA) of €11.9 million during the first five years of operation.
“This is an exciting moment for Econergy,” said Chief Executive Eyal Podhorzer. “We’ve been evaluating the German market for quite some time, waiting for the right opportunity. With demand for storage accelerating, we’re proud to enter with two high-quality projects.”
The company said the acquisition supports its broader strategy to become a leading independent power producer in Europe, with energy storage playing a growing role in its business model.
Econergy already operates the Swangate BESS project in the United Kingdom and has a development pipeline of around 4 gigawatts (GW) of storage assets, including 15 co-located solar-plus-storage sites across Europe.
The company added that it is continuing to explore further investment opportunities in Germany, in line with its goal of supporting the continent’s transition to a low-carbon and resilient energy system.
