Orlen Neptun, a subsidiary of Polish energy group Orlen, has opened the country’s first offshore wind farm installation terminal in the port city of Świnoujście, marking a significant step in the development of Poland’s offshore wind infrastructure.
The facility will serve as a logistical base for Orlen’s upcoming offshore wind projects and will also be made available to external operators. Ocean Winds, a joint venture between ENGIE and EDP Renewables, has become the terminal’s first commercial customer through a long-term lease agreement.
“The installation terminal in Świnoujście is yet another pioneering offshore wind investment we’re delivering in Poland,” said Ireneusz Fąfara, CEO and president of the management board at Orlen. “We’re not just building infrastructure – we’re laying the foundations for an entirely new, future-ready sector of the economy.”
Under the agreement, Ocean Winds will use nearly the entire terminal area to support the construction of the BC-Wind offshore wind farm, located approximately 228 kilometres from Świnoujście. The facility will handle logistics for delivering, storing, and preparing turbine foundations and other components before they are shipped to the installation site.
Kacper Kostrzewa, managing director of Ocean Winds Poland, said the terminal “fully meets both our technical requirements and project timelines,” adding that BC-Wind is the company’s first project in the Baltic Sea and reflects its commitment to engaging the local supply chain.
The Świnoujście terminal is designed to support the assembly and deployment of several dozen wind turbines per year and accommodate some of the largest vessels used in offshore wind construction, including jack-up and heavy-lift ships. It also features infrastructure capable of handling offshore substation topsides weighing up to 24,000 tonnes.
The project is expected to play a key role in scaling up offshore wind capacity in Poland and the broader Baltic Sea region. Orlen has stated that nearly half of the investments tied to its offshore initiatives will involve Polish suppliers and contractors.
