UK-based NR Marine Services has commissioned naval architecture firm Walker Marine Design (WMD) to develop a new Cyclone Class crew transfer vessel (CTV), expanding its offshore fleet with a focus on comfort, capacity and operational performance.
The 29-metre vessel builds on the company’s previous Storm and Typhoon Class vessels, which were also designed by WMD and built by Diverse Marine on the Isle of Wight. The new class will offer upgraded onboard facilities, including six cabins and accommodation for up to 24 passengers.
With a deck cargo capacity of 30 tonnes and propulsion from four Volvo IPS1050 engines, the Cyclone Class CTV is expected to reach speeds of up to 28 knots.
“Working with WMD on the new Cyclone range was a no-brainer,” said Owen Nutt, director of NR Marine. “Their previous designs have exceeded expectations, and we’re excited to welcome this new vessel into our fleet.”
WMD project manager Nikki Walker described the commission as a milestone in a long-standing collaboration. “Being trusted to help them develop a new class of vessel is a huge compliment,” she said. “We look forward to seeing the Cyclone Class take shape and enter operation.”
The announcement comes ahead of the Seawork marine exhibition, scheduled for June 10–12 in Southampton. WMD will be exhibiting at Stand G19, while NR Marine will present its newest vessel, NR HUNTER, at Berth VB22.
The Cyclone Class is intended to support offshore wind operations, with the design aimed at improving crew comfort and efficiency in challenging marine environments.
