Vestas has completed the first commercial installation of its new V172-7.2MW wind turbine, part of the company’s EnVentus platform, in Salzkotten, Germany.
The turbine, delivered to German renewable energy developer LSF Energy GmbH & Co. KG, was installed on schedule and now operates at a hub height of 175 metres.
The V172-7.2MW is designed for low to medium wind conditions and is intended to improve energy output in such environments. Vestas said the turbine achieves a 12% increase in annual energy production in low wind settings due to upgrades in the powertrain and conversion systems.
The model has received multiple certifications, including a Provisional Type Certificate.
“This successful installation marks an important milestone for the EnVentus platform and reflects our ongoing commitment to delivering flexible, high-performing wind solutions,” a Vestas spokesperson said.
The EnVentus platform has secured over 19GW in firm orders across 28 markets, with more than 10GW already installed globally. The deployment in Germany follows Vestas reaching over 1GW in firm orders for its 7+MW onshore turbine models.
