OnPath Energy has begun public consultations for a proposed eight-turbine wind farm in East Ayrshire, Scotland, with a series of exhibitions scheduled to gather local feedback on the project.
The wind farm is planned for a site in the Cumnock and Doon Valley area, approximately 3.5 kilometres east of Netherthird, on land formerly used for open-cast coal mining at Garleffan and Grievehill. A scoping report for the development has already been submitted by the company.
The first round of public exhibitions will take place at three venues: New Cumnock Bowling Club on April 22, Logan Day Centre on April 23, and Netherthird Community Centre on April 24.
“We’re keen for as many residents as possible to come along to the upcoming exhibitions and be part of shaping what this wind farm could look like,” said Aileen McCreadie, partnerships and community manager at OnPath Energy. “These sessions are a crucial step for us, we’re not here to simply present plans—we’re here to listen, to understand local priorities, and where possible to reflect them in the final proposals.”
The proposed development could feature turbines with a maximum tip height of 250 metres and is expected to generate up to 161.5 gigawatt-hours of electricity annually if approved. The company also plans to provide at least £5,000 per megawatt per year in community funding.
As part of its OnPath Together development model, the company is offering 1% free equity to local communities and the opportunity for additional investment at market value.
“These exhibitions are a key milestone in our journey, giving us the chance to speak directly with the people who know this area best,” said Ewan Robertson, project manager for the wind farm proposal.
OnPath said the feedback gathered during these events will help shape the final plans for the project, which remains in the early stages of development.
