Enercon and RWE have entered into a long-term partnership to jointly develop and implement onshore wind projects across Europe. The companies formalized their cooperation with the signing of a letter of intent at the WindEurope conference in Copenhagen.
The partnership outlines several years of collaboration focused on onshore wind projects in RWE’s key European markets. Under the terms of the agreement, Enercon will be responsible for supplying, installing, and maintaining the wind turbines, while RWE will manage the operation of its own turbines. The cooperation is designed to support the companies’ growth programs in renewable energy and enhance their operational capabilities.
Katja Wünschel, Chief Executive of RWE Renewables Europe & Australia, noted the importance of onshore wind in expanding renewable energy in a cost-effective manner. “Onshore wind energy enables the cost-efficient expansion of renewable energies,” Wünschel said. “The aim is to secure components and services for some of our projects under agreed framework conditions in order to be able to reliably implement our growth programme. This also gives our partner planning security.”
She added that the memorandum of understanding (MoU) would integrate seamlessly into RWE’s existing contracts and strengthen the company’s European supply chain. “I am very much looking forward to the projects we will implement together across Europe,” Wünschel added.
Ulrich Schulj Sdhof, Chief Commercial Officer at Enercon, emphasized the role of the partnership in contributing to the climate-neutral energy transition. “We are pleased to be able to make a long-term contribution to the expansion of onshore wind energy in Europe together with RWE,” said Schulj Sdhof. He also highlighted how the partnership will allow Enercon to capitalize on the evolving energy market with an expanded product and service portfolio.
“The partnership between RWE and Enercon secures both our long-term plans and the market-driven further development of our products,” he concluded, underscoring the strategic importance of this collaboration in shaping the future of Europe’s energy transition.
