RWE and French pharmaceutical company Sanofi have entered into a 20-year power purchase agreement (PPA), under which RWE will provide 21GWh of green electricity annually from the Chemin de Châlons 1 wind farm in Marne. This agreement aims to support Sanofi's energy transition goals.
The contract, which became effective earlier this year, underscores the commitment between the two parties to advance sustainability. Olaf Lubenow, RWE's head of commodity solutions for the UK, North and South Europe, highlighted the significance of the deal, stating, “A 20-year contract represents a long-term commitment and is a testament to the mutual trust between the signatories.”
Lubenow also noted that the agreement emphasizes the growing importance and competitiveness of renewable energy, particularly onshore wind, in enabling the decarbonisation of French industry without relying on state subsidies.
