Carnegie Clean Energy subsidiaries, CETO Wave Energy Ireland and Carnegie Technologies Spain, have signed a €600,000 contract with Biscay Marine Energy Platform (BiMEP) for the installation and testing of their CETO wave energy technology.

The CETO technology, developed by Carnegie Clean Energy, captures energy from ocean waves and converts it into electricity. Under the terms of the agreement, the technology will be installed and tested at the BiMEP site located in the Basque Country, Spain, as part of Carnegie’s ACHIEVE program.

This contract finalizes the previously signed Berth Reservation Agreement and outlines key terms for the installation, operation, and decommissioning of the CETO system over a two-year period. BiMEP will provide critical infrastructure, both offshore and onshore, including berth mooring areas, submarine power cables, subsea electrical connectors, fibre optic cables, an electrical substation, power lines, and office space, facilitating the delivery of electricity to the grid.

BiMEP will also carry out site upgrades, including the retrieval of legacy equipment and the replacement of the existing electrical connector, before providing Carnegie access to the site once these works are complete.

Carnegie sees the deployment of CETO at BiMEP as a crucial step in the commercialization of its wave energy technology, aimed at delivering technical and commercial results.

Jonathan Fiévez, CEO of Carnegie, commented, “BiMEP provides established, world-class facilities, a supportive and collaborative team and challenging sea states. This combination is precisely why we’ve chosen to deploy CETO at BiMEP and we look forward to CETO demonstrating its performance and reliability at the site.”

Miguel Santos-Herran, Project Manager for the ACHIEVE program, added, “We are pleased to solidify our commitment to continued work in the Basque Country. Following the recent establishment of our offices in the Basque Country, we are excited to progress to the next phase, involving the upcoming installation of wave buoys, site works, and pre-installation activities, leading to the deployment of CETO.
