Briggs Marine has added a new maintenance support vessel, MV Forth Constructor, to its fleet. The vessel, built by Freire Shipyard in Spain, is designed to enhance the company's service offerings, particularly in contracts with the UK government, port and harbour authorities, and the offshore wind sector.
The MV Forth Constructor was custom-designed to Briggs Marine's specifications in collaboration with Cintranaval and Freire Shipyard. Its primary role will be servicing heavy moorings and navigation marks. However, the vessel is also equipped to perform a range of offshore support tasks, including diving, ROV operations, seabed surveys, offshore wind support, and inshore cable laying.
With accommodation for six crew members and up to 10 project workers, the vessel prioritizes crew comfort. It features well-appointed en-suite cabins and has been designed to minimize noise and vibration throughout its structure.
“The ship, which has taken over two years to conceptualize and build, represents a genuinely novel solution to a wide range of demands, including our mainstay of moorings and aids to navigation maintenance,” said Iain Ross, Briggs Marine's Director of Port and Marine. “Partnering with Freire Shipyard has seen Briggs' concept developed effectively and efficiently. They have not only provided the technical aspects of construction but have brought innovative solutions to the project.”
Additional features of the MV Forth Constructor include an active heave-compensated crane, a moonpool, a demountable A-frame, four-point mooring capability, and a dedicated survey office, offering greater flexibility for various clients. A demountable Crew Transfer Vessel (CTV) boarding ladder has also been included to enhance the vessel's ability to support offshore wind farm projects.
Briggs Marine highlighted the importance of the collaborative approach in meeting the project's milestones and expressed appreciation for its continued partnership with Lombard for financing arrangements. The company looks forward to bringing the vessel into service and continuing its relationship with Freire Shipyard in future projects.
