Swiss-based MET Group has initiated the construction of an 80MW solar park in Romania, marking a significant step in expanding its renewable energy portfolio. Located in the Dâmbovița county, the new solar project will add to MET’s existing renewable assets in Romania, which now exceed 260MW of photovoltaic (PV) capacity along with 10MW of co-located battery energy storage.
The project is part of a broader strategy to expand MET Group’s presence in the European renewables market, with the company focusing on Romania as one of its key markets. Of the four renewable energy projects in Romania, three have already achieved ready-to-build status. Once completed, the four parks will span a total of 400 hectares across the counties of Arad, Dâmbovița, and Bihor.
Clive Turton, Executive Chairman of MET Group’s Green Assets Division, emphasized the company’s commitment to the energy transition, stating, “MET Group’s business strategy and investment profile are fully aligned with energy transition priorities.” He added that over the past four years, 70% of the company’s capital expenditure has been directed towards renewable assets.
MET Group continues to focus on providing green energy access through Power Purchase Agreements (PPAs) with a diverse range of customers. These agreements enable consumers to secure stable, long-term contracts for competitively priced renewable energy, further solidifying the company’s role in driving the shift towards sustainable energy.
