NKT, a leading subsea cable producer, has entered into an international responsible business agreement with the Social and Economic Council of the Netherlands (SER). This agreement aims to promote International Responsible Business Conduct (IRBC), with a focus on reducing risks related to human rights and the environment within the renewable energy sector.
The company’s membership in the IRBC agreement highlights its commitment to sustainability and responsible business practices. NKT has stated that it is dedicated to being a fair and ethical business partner, continuously enhancing its efforts to uphold these core values.
“We are pleased to welcome NKT A/S as a member of the IRBC Agreement for the Renewable Energy Sector,” said Kees Vendrik, Chairperson of the IRBC Agreement. “Cables are a crucial component of the renewable energy supply chain, enabling the transition to a more sustainable energy system. We look forward to collaborating with NKT to strengthen responsible business conduct and drive positive impact across the sector.”
The agreement brings together private companies, trade unions, NGOs, and the Dutch government, with the goal of identifying and addressing risks in the value chain related to human rights and environmental impact. NKT’s participation in this initiative enables it to work alongside other stakeholders to enhance its due diligence processes and further reduce risks in its operations.
Currently, 56 companies from the renewable energy sector are involved in the initiative, participating across various stages of the value chain. NKT’s strong presence in the Netherlands, including its operations in Rotterdam, is expected to further strengthen its contributions to responsible business practices both in the Dutch market and across Europe.
As part of its ongoing sustainability efforts, NKT will continue to engage with the IRBC network to promote the shared goal of ensuring ethical and environmentally responsible business operations.
