The German Federal Maritime and Hydrographic Agency (BSH) has confirmed that two areas in the German North Sea Exclusive Economic Zone (EEZ) are suitable for offshore wind energy projects, paving the way for a tender process. The areas, N-10.1 and N-10.2, will be auctioned in 2025, with the bidding deadline set for August 1 of that year, according to the BSH Area Development Plan from 2023.
Covering a combined total of 182 square kilometers, the two areas have a projected capacity of 2.5GW. The N-10.1 area spans 151 square kilometers and is expected to host 2GW of offshore wind capacity. Located about 110 kilometers from Juist, the closest German island, and 115 kilometers from Rottumerplaat, the nearest Dutch island, N-10.1 is a significant site for offshore wind development.
The N-10.2 area, which covers 31 square kilometers, is designated for 500MW of capacity. This site is approximately 109 kilometers from Juist and 113 kilometers from Rottumerplaat.
The BSH's decision is a key step in Germany's efforts to expand offshore wind capacity, as the country works toward meeting its renewable energy goals.
