Voltalia has been awarded a five-year maintenance contract by Brazilian utility Copel for wind farms located in Rio Grande do Norte. The agreement, which covers a total capacity of 940MW across six wind farm complexes, will involve the preventive and corrective maintenance of key infrastructure.
The wind farms included in the contract are part of the Brisa Potiguar, Cutia and Bento Miguel, Sao Bento do Norte, Jandaira, Aventura, and Santa Rosa Mundo Novo complexes. Voltalia's responsibilities will include maintaining collector substations, medium-voltage networks, as well as 138 kV and 230 kV transmission lines. The company will also manage the local operation of interconnection facilities and spare parts.
This new partnership builds on Copel's existing involvement with Voltalia. Since 2015, Copel has held a minority stake in Voltalia's SMG wind farm (108 MW). The utility is also a key counterparty in long-term power purchase agreements for Voltalia's solar plants, totalling 270 MW, and has previously purchased 187 MW of wind assets, which Voltalia developed and operates.
Voltalia, which operates approximately 4.1 GW in Rio Grande do Norte—1.3 GW for its own account and 2.8 GW for third-party clients—has significantly expanded its presence in Brazil. “Over the past five years, Voltalia has more than quintupled its portfolio operated on behalf of third parties in Brazil, consolidating itself as one of the main players in the market and strengthening its presence in strategic hubs such as Rio Grande do Norte,” said Robert Klein, CEO of Voltalia. “This new contract reflects not only the confidence of our partners, but also our commitment to offering high-performance solutions that ensure efficiency, reliability and sustainable growth in the renewable energy sector.
