(OW) has published a report detailing its initiatives to develop skills in and promote the wind sector. The report outlines a range of programs aimed at addressing skills gaps, in line with and Scottish government objectives to create domestic job opportunities in the renewable energy sector.

The company, which has been active in sector promotion for nearly 15 years through its sponsors ENGIE and EDPR, has worked on initiatives ranging from early engagement with local schools to strategic partnerships with educational and training organizations. The report provides an overview of efforts across schools, colleges, universities, and OW's workplace to support skills development.

A key focus of the report is OW's work to address the skills gap in critical areas such as fabrication and welding, which are essential for the sustainable growth of Scotland's offshore wind supply chain. “It is crucial that the talent pipeline for the offshore wind supply chain is prioritised as Scotland looks to accelerate its offshore wind footprint and output,” said Adam Morrison, Ocean Winds UK country manager.

OW's initiatives aim to engage a broad range of individuals, from school students to military veterans and skilled workers transitioning careers. The company has rolled out skills programs across Scotland, particularly in the northeast, where OW has its operational bases. The report highlights that the programs are designed not only to create direct recruitment pipelines but also to foster sector-wide engagement.

Morrison added, “Ocean Winds is proud to be providing funds and time to a broad range of skills programmes that support sector attractiveness. The offshore wind sector needs to enthuse learners of all ages about STEM subjects and the varied pathways into long-term exciting careers.

OW's report emphasizes the company's commitment to investing in the workforce necessary for Scotland's long-term offshore wind sector, ensuring a skilled labor pool to support the country's clean energy ambitions.
