Pacific Green has announced the appointment of Ben Fawcett as Chief Operating Officer (COO) for its Pacific Green Energy Parks Europe division, a wholly owned subsidiary of the company. Fawcett brings over 20 years of experience in European energy and battery energy storage system (BESS) development to the role.
Fawcett joins Pacific Green from Exagen, a UK-focused energy developer, where he served as commercial and development director. Prior to that, he was head of solar at EDF Renewables UK, where he led the acquisition of the battery storage platform Pivot Power in 2019 and established the UK Solar team, responsible for over 4 gigawatts (GW) of utility-scale, commercial and industrial (C&I), and solar-plus-storage projects.
Pacific Green's European leadership team is focused on expanding the company's presence in key markets including the UK, Italy, and Poland. In the UK, the company has already commissioned the 100MW/100MWh Richborough Energy Park for investor Sosteneo and is progressing toward the delivery of its 249MW Sheaf Energy Park. In 2024, Pacific Green also launched the second phase of its UK BESS strategy with a dedicated development team in Edinburgh tasked with developing additional projects.
In Italy, the company is aiming to achieve 3.2 gigawatt-hours (GWh) of energy storage capacity, following its acquisition of a five-project pipeline from Sphera Energy in late 2023. In Poland, the team is advancing two 50MW BESS projects with a total storage capacity of 400MWh, with a longer-term goal of reaching 1GWh.
Ben Fawcett expressed enthusiasm for his new role, saying: “I have been impressed with the skills and experience that Pacific Green brings to the battery energy storage and wider renewable sector and am delighted for the opportunity to contribute to the next phase of the company's growth. It's a privilege to join the Pacific Green team at this exciting time.
Fawcett's appointment comes as the company looks to strengthen its position in the European energy market, particularly in the fast-growing BESS sector.
