Martin Whyte has been appointed as the Project Director for Spiorad na Mara and Havbredey, two offshore wind farm projects located off the Isle of Lewis, in the North Atlantic. Spiorad na Mara is planned for the west coast of the island, while Havbredey will be situated in the northeast.
Jennifer Snowball, Vice President of Offshore Development at Northland Power, expressed confidence in Whyte’s appointment, stating, “Martin’s experience, combined with his passion for collaborative working and designing projects in the right way for their environment, will be invaluable as we embark on an important year, submitting planning applications for Spiorad na Mara and submitting the Scoping Request for Havbredey.”
The Spiorad na Mara project is designed to generate up to 900 megawatts (MW) of power, while the Havbredey wind farm is expected to deliver up to 1.5 gigawatts (GW) of capacity.
Whyte, who succeeds Tanya Davies as Project Director, shared his enthusiasm for the projects, saying, “I look forward to getting out and about, spending time in Lewis, listening and talking to people as we continue the development and design of both projects.”
Davies, who has led the projects since their inception in 2021, is transitioning out of the role as Whyte takes the helm.
