A new collaboration will bring a biogas plant to Paradeep Municipality in Jagatsinghpur District, Odisha, India. The project is a joint effort by Tecnimont Private Limited (the Indian subsidiary of MAIRE's Integrated E&C Solutions), Paradeep Municipality, and the National Institute of Technology, Karnataka – Surathkal (NITK).
The plant will focus on implementing circular waste management solutions by converting food and vegetable waste into biogas through anaerobic digestion. The biogas produced will support community kitchens, providing a sustainable energy source while addressing organic waste challenges.
MAIRE highlighted that the initiative will foster job creation for locals involved in waste collection and offer educational opportunities. This builds on the success of a pilot biogas plant inaugurated in 2021 at the NITK campus, which generates energy by processing food and vegetable waste from campus facilities.
The Paradeep project marks a significant step in promoting circular economy principles, enhancing waste-to-energy systems, and contributing to sustainable development in the region.
