Tata Power Co Ltd has entered into a strategic partnership with Bhutan's Druk Green Power Corp Ltd, a subsidiary of Druk Holding and Investments, to deploy over 5 GW of renewable energy projects in the Kingdom.
The agreement includes 2,000 MW of hydropower, 500 MW of solar capacity, and 2,500 MW of pumped-storage facilities.
Formalized through a memorandum of understanding, the partnership will see the two utilities jointly develop hydropower and storage projects in phases, while Tata Power Renewable Energy will lead solar energy initiatives. The collaboration supports Bhutan's goal of increasing its total power generation capacity to 25,000 MW by 2040 and enhancing energy security.
This initiative builds on a history of cooperation between Tata Power and Druk Green Power, which previously partnered on a 126-MW hydropower project in 2008.
Tata Power also operates a 1,200-km transmission line enabling the export of Bhutanese renewable energy to India. The latest agreement further solidifies the renewable energy partnership between the two nations.
