Norwegian renewable energy developer Solgrid has announced plans to construct the Orje Solar Power Plant, a significant solar facility that will produce 15 GWh of clean electricity annually once operational.
The project, granted a licence by the Norwegian Water Resources and Energy Directorate (NVE), will be located in the eastern municipality of Marker.
The 13.7-MWp Orje Solar Power Plant will span 230 acres, making it the largest licensed solar power plant in Norway to date. Situated within a production forest, the plant is expected to commence construction in the summer of 2025, with commissioning slated for the first half of 2026. Upon completion, the facility will provide enough power to supply 750 households.
Solgrid's project is notable for making Marker the first municipality in Norway to integrate energy from water, wind, and solar sources.
Solgrid, based in Norway and Sweden, is owned by Akershus Energi, Ostfold Energi, Valinor, Obligo, and its employees. The company previously developed Furuseth Solkraftverk, Norway's first licensed solar power plant.
