US-based Allete clean energy unit has secured power purchase agreements (PPAs) for the full output of its operational 100.5-MW Armenia Mountain wind farm, located near Troy, Pennsylvania.
The agreements extend for another seven years, providing long-term stability for the project's energy output.
The wind farm's electricity will be sold to two offtakers: Smartest Energy US, an energy retail partner and wholesale commodity trader, and Old Dominion Energy Cooperative, which has been a returning customer since the wind farm began operations in 2009. The Armenia Mountain wind farm, located near the New York-Pennsylvania border, consists of 67 General Electric turbines.
Allete Clean Energy acquired the site in 2015 from AES Corp and a minority shareholder. Since then, the company has become a key player in the clean energy sector, managing and delivering over 1,600 MW of wind capacity across eight states. Based in Duluth, Minnesota, Allete Clean Energy continues to expand its renewable energy portfolio.
