Japanese utility Chubu Electric Power Co has increased its ownership in Indian renewable energy company OMC Power, strengthening its foothold in distributed generation and renewable energy solutions in India.
OMC Power operates around 25 MW of solar power plants, most of which are paired with battery storage, in Uttar Pradesh. These mini-grids supply electricity to telecom towers, SMEs, and local communities.
With the expanded stake, Chubu Electric becomes OMC's largest shareholder and gains a third board seat. The Japanese utility plans to send employees to support OMC's operations and accelerate its rooftop solar and distributed generation activities. This investment aligns with Chubu Electric's strategy to enhance its international renewable energy portfolio.
