Synera Renewable Energy Group (SRE Group) has received an establishment permit for its 495-MW Formosa 4 offshore wind project in Taiwan. The approval, granted by the energy administration of the local economic affairs ministry, makes Formosa 4 the first project from the late 2022 Phase 3 Zonal Development auction to reach this milestone.
Located 18-20 kilometers off Miaoli County's coast, the project will cover 58 square kilometers at water depths of 57-64 meters. It will feature up to 35 turbines supported by jacket foundations.
SRE, formerly known as Swancor, previously participated in Taiwan's first commercial-scale offshore wind farm, Formosa 1, and its ongoing Formosa 2 project. Earlier in 2024, it secured an 800-MW capacity for its Formosa 6 project in Taiwan's Round 3.2 tender.
Formosa 4 is set to support Taiwan's renewable energy goals by expanding offshore wind capacity and contributing to the country's clean energy transition.
