Iberdrola SA has signed a 10-year power purchase agreement (PPA) with Italian steel products manufacturer Acciaierie Venete SpA, under which the Spanish utility will provide 230 GWh of solar power from a 12-MW photovoltaic park currently under construction in Italy.
The deal will help Acciaierie Venete reduce its carbon dioxide emissions by approximately 6,960 tonnes.
The solar farm is part of Iberdrola's extensive portfolio in Italy, as the company continues its push to reach 400 MW of installed capacity in the country by 2025.
Francesco Semino, community service officer of Acciaierie Venete, remarked, “This partnership with Iberdrola is consistent with our commitment to sustainability,” adding that the PPA aligns with the steelmaker's decarbonisation strategy to cut its carbon footprint by more than 50% by 2030.
