The Romanian Energy Ministry has finalized contracts to distribute nearly €70 million (USD 76.3 million) in grant funding aimed at supporting the establishment of a 1.5-GW solar panel manufacturing plant and five large-scale battery energy storage system (BESS) projects.
The funding is part of the country's National Recovery and Resilience Plan (NRRP), according to Minister of Energy Sebastian Burduja.
Of the total grant, approximately €32.9 million will be allocated to Helomit Srl for the construction of a solar panel factory in Barlad, Vaslui County, located near the Moldova border. The remaining funds will be divided among five battery storage projects that will enhance Romania's energy storage capacity by nearly 800 MWh.
The breakdown of the remaining grants includes €9.9 million for Aukera Project Company Delta Srl to install a 300-MWh battery in Ialomita County, €6.1 million for Baboia Solar Plant SRL for a 121.9-MWh facility in Giurgiu County, and €4.3 million for HQ Plus Sel's 79.2-MWh energy storage project in Mures County.
Additionally, HQ Curat Srl will receive €4.9 million for a 91.4-MWh battery, while Energy Capital Group Srl has been earmarked €10.7 million for a 199.1-MWh battery in Caras-Severin County.
With these contracts, Romania has reportedly secured 20% of the capacity required to meet its energy storage needs, as stated by Minister Burduja.
