RWE Secures Permits for 100MW Hydrogen Electrolyser Project in the Netherlands

RWE has received both construction and environmental permits for a 100-MW hydrogen electrolyser near its Magnum power plant in Eemshaven, in the north of the .

This milestone advances RWE's plans to integrate renewable energy from its 795-MW wind farm, which is being developed with , into the Dutch energy system.

Sopna Sury, Chief Operating Officer for Hydrogen at RWE Generation SE, said: “With the receipt of the permits, we have come a step closer to the realisation of this electrolyser in Eemshaven. With the plant, RWE could provide industry with the it needs to decarbonise production processes. With our plans for this electrolyser in Eemshaven, we are contributing to the growth of the region and helping to establish it as a hub for renewable energies.”

TotalEnergies has announced plans to use its share of OranjeWind's power to operate additional electrolysers with a combined capacity of 350 MW, producing green hydrogen for its refineries across Northern Europe.

Both the Eemshaven and OranjeWind projects are awaiting final investment decisions, which will depend on the completion of infrastructure like the national hydrogen backbone to facilitate hydrogen transport to end-users.
