The US Bureau of Ocean Energy Management (BOEM) and the Department of Defense (DOD) have formalized a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to support offshore wind projects on the US Outer Continental Shelf (OCS) in coordination with military operations.

Signed during the American Clean Power Association’s Offshore Windpower conference in Atlantic City, the agreement establishes a framework for streamlined communication and project planning between the two agencies, ensuring that renewable energy development aligns with US national security priorities.

Anne Reynolds, vice president for offshore wind at ACP, said, “Today’s MoU between BOEM and DOD fosters interagency collaboration that the offshore wind industry needs for efficient and smart permitting.” She added that this strategic collaboration aims to enhance project planning and create a “good government approach to growing US energy independence.”

The agreement not only supports the growth of the offshore wind industry but also underscores a commitment to sustainable energy that contributes to job creation and strengthens US energy security.
