Canadian green hydrogen developer EverWind Fuels has received CAD 22 million (USD 15.9 million) from the Canadian government to advance infrastructure development at its Point Tupper Terminal in Nova Scotia. The funding, announced on Friday, is part of Transport Canada's Green Shipping Corridor Fund.
The investment will facilitate the acquisition of a loading arm for fueling and filling ships with green ammonia, the construction of a pipeline connecting the green ammonia production facility to the transport terminal, the purchase of three tugboats, and enhancements to the dock to ensure safe ship movement and loading.
EverWind emphasized that this funding will expedite the development of its Point Tupper green hydrogen and green ammonia project, aiming to establish the Strait of Canso region as a significant hub for sustainable energy and a transportation center for its associated project on the Burin Peninsula in Newfoundland.
EverWind CEO Trent Vichie highlighted the government's commitment to making Nova Scotia a green energy shipping hub and a leader in reducing transportation emissions. He stressed the importance of proactive measures in addressing climate change.
Anita Anand, president of the Treasury Board and Minister of Transport, echoed these sentiments, noting that the investment in EverWind Fuels is a crucial part of Canada's strategy for building a cleaner and more sustainable economy. Earlier this year, EverWind completed the Front-End Engineering Design (FEED) for the first phase of the Point Tupper development.
