The Australian Renewable Energy Hub (AREH), one of the world's largest planned green projects, is targeting early 2030s for initial operations, with green exports anticipated by the mid-2030s.

Located in Western 's Pilbara region, the project is expected to generate 26 GW of wind and solar power, enabling an annual production of 1.6 million tonnes of or 9 million tonnes of green ammonia once fully operational.

Phase One of AREH will focus on installing approximately 1 GW of solar and wind capacity by 2029, with renewable power generation expected to commence soon after.

Hydrogen production is slated to begin by the early 2030s, with ammonia exports set to follow in the mid-2030s, shifting from the initial 2027-2028 target.

Originally launched by CWP and InterContinental Energy in 2017, AREH is now led by BP, which acquired a majority stake in 2022. Intercontinental Energy and retain stakes of 26.39% and 10.04%, respectively.
