Belgium-based renewables investor and developer Aukera Energy announced today that it has received approval from the Scottish Government to construct a 45-MW solar farm paired with a 40-MW battery energy storage system (BESS) in South Ayrshire.
The Loch Fergus project received a positive outcome following extensive consultation with the local community and relevant experts from various councils and decision-making bodies, according to a company press statement.
Jointly developed by Aukera and Locogen, the Loch Fergus scheme is slated to become operational in 2026. Upon commissioning, the solar farm is expected to generate approximately 57 GWh of clean energy annually, which could power more than 13,600 local homes.
Founded in 2021, Aukera specializes in solar, wind, and battery storage projects and is currently developing a pipeline of 16,059 MW of renewable energy initiatives.
Earlier in May, the company acquired a ready-to-build 39-MWp solar project in Essex, UK, from developer BOOM Power, with the Crays Hall site expected to commence operations in late 2025.
