Inc has responded to a patent infringement complaint filed by its Chinese competitor Trina Co Ltd, deeming the allegations “frivolous.” The complaint, lodged on October 8 in the US District Court for the District of , targets three US subsidiaries of Canadian Solar.

It claims that they directly or indirectly infringe upon two US patents held by Trina concerning tunnel oxide passivated contact (TOPCon) solar (PV) module technology.

In its statement, Canadian Solar emphasized its commitment to respecting intellectual property rights while asserting that it produces and sells a variety of solar products, including TOPCon modules, to customers globally.

Adam Walters, general counsel for Canadian Solar's Modules and Systems Solutions business in the Americas, expressed confidence that the court would conclude that Canadian Solar's proprietary TOPCon technology does not infringe on Trina's patents.
