Poland’s Ministry of the Environment has announced that the municipality of Rzeszów has received PLN 69.6 million (USD 17 million/EUR 16 million) in financing to purchase 20 hydrogen buses, part of a PLN 98 million project.
The funding will be provided through a grant from the National Recovery and Resilience Plan and is aligned with EU priorities for increasing the use of alternative fuels and promoting low-emission transport options.
The financing decision follows the recent adoption of a draft bill known as the “hydrogen law” by Poland’s council of ministers. Minister Paulina Hennig-Kloska noted that, starting in 2025, Poland will be among the few EU countries with a comprehensive legal framework governing the hydrogen market.
Poland’s efforts to decarbonise its transport sector are supported through co-financing programs with a total budget of PLN 5 billion.
These programs include funding for the purchase of light electric vehicles, electric and hydrogen buses, as well as the expansion of charging and refueling infrastructure.
