AMEA Power has announced the completion of solar module installations at its 500-MW Abydos photovoltaic (PV) park in Egypt, alongside the successful energisation of a 220-kV substation that will connect the facility to the national grid. The Dubai-based renewables developer shared the update via a LinkedIn post on Monday, indicating that one million solar modules have been installed at the site located in Kom Ombo, Aswan governorate.
The Abydos park is expected to generate approximately 1,500 GWh of electricity annually, enough to meet the power needs of over 256,000 households. Additionally, the project's electricity generation is anticipated to offset around 783,300 tonnes of carbon dioxide emissions. AMEA Power will sell the generated electricity under power purchase agreements with the Egyptian Electricity Transmission Company (EETC).
The Abydos Solar Power Company (ASPC), which is wholly owned by AMEA Power, oversaw the construction of the PV farm and will be responsible for its operation and management.
This summer, AMEA Power received governmental approval to connect 2,000 MW of renewable energy capacity to Egypt's power grid by the summer of 2025, with the Abydos project being a significant component of that initiative.
